Overseas investments?

Few months ago I heard on TV that overseas investors now buying properties in australia. Does that still happen? Apparently reach foreigners would buy here and keep houses empty just waiting on price of property to jump in a few years?
Anyone heard about the same?

i think australian government working on it, to make it even easier for foreign inverters. for all type of properties, residential or commercial
